The Viral App Playbook
vibe code an app in a weekend
Building mobile apps right now is truly like drop shipping in 2016, if you didn’t know drop shipping then it looked like this
step 1: find a winning product, which just meant a product that’s selling a lot right now and is “hot”
step 2: build your shopify store in a day + create ads
step 3: Launch ads
and you’d just rinse and repeat this process until one reallyyyy ripped, and if you had a store fail, you lost less than $200 and would just rinse and repeat
and then in 2020, drop shipping got even easier, because you no longer needed to spend money on ads and you could just make tik toks and get traffic for $0 ad spend
now, the same has happened to mobile apps, but it’s still just as untapped as drop shipping was in 2016
step 1: go to sensortower(dot)com and browse apps in a niche you’re interested in, find one making at least $50,000/mo to show that it’s working (winning product)
step 2: use an ai tool to create a rough design, focus on building the onboarding flow and use mobbin(dot)com to copy the onboarding flows of your biggest competitors
step 3: vibe code your app in a weekend using either bolt(dot)new create(dot)xyz or cursor
step 4: search up your app idea on tik tok (ex search “calorie tracking app”) and make a swipe file of the top 20-30 videos in that niche
step 5: reach out to 5-10 creators in that niche per day “hey I just built {app} that does {X} and I’m looking to pay creators to promote it - what are your rates”
negotiate them to something like $10/video + $1 per 1,000 views, small creators will do this all day and we want small creators
begin getting traffic and making optimizations to your paywall to increase conversion rate
your creators are testing for winning “concepts” or one video style, the first month is all about testing for a winning concept
at Payd, we tested the following:
green screen videos
talking head videos
slideshows
get ready with me’s
day in the life videos
text over screen
our winning concept was get ready with me videos, once we discovered this, we told creators to only make those videos + began running their videos as tik tok spark ads
this brought us from 60-100 downloads per day to 1,000 downloads in a day off of only $70 ad spend and achieved a 6 figure run rate
I documented literally every bit of growing Payd - and compiled it into a step by step plug n play program that anyone can replicate
