The Future of Work is Changing

Harvard grads can't get jobs

Unemployment of new college graduates is the highest it’s been in the last 3 years close to 6%

there are Harvard graduates that are struggling to land even entry level jobs

I have friends that are applying to HUNDREDS of jobs to not even land any interviews, people that were smart kids and went to relatively good schools

this isn’t because they’re dumb, it’s because the future of work is changing

Meta just laid off another 10% of their workforce

Clickup just reduced their headcount by 22%

Block laid off 40% of their company

This is going to keep happening, there’s some major changes happening, but if you’re wise and have second order thinking, you can figure out where the puck is going and skate to it

  1. AI is obviously taking over, any task that is repetitive, AI can learn to do it faster, better, and cheaper than a human

Most people are just sitting around either waiting for AI to take their job or hoping it doesn’t, but it doesn’t have to be that way

because employees that learn to leverage AI to become 10x more efficient are in EXTREME demand and are landing fat salaries

If you’re in a sales role, you can build a lead list building tool based off how you do it currently and then open source it to the whole team, which is genuinely simple to do

If you’re not spending at least 1 hour per day learning about new ai tools and how to use them, you will be left behind

  1. The cost of everything is going to $0

Software used to be expensive to build, now it can be done for very little with ai tools, marketing used to be expensive, now you can do it for less because of ai

and the costs will keep going lower and lower, all of this to say:

what is the moat that’s left?

AI cannot replicate human relationships, taste, and creativity

I firmly believe that people that are widely likable, have good taste and creativity in their marketing, and build a brand around those things are invincible

Go big on your personal brand, go big on cracking distribution and learning the social algorithms, and marketing in a way that makes people feel something

  1. Where’s the puck going?

People are going to have to find alternative ways to make money outside of 9-5’s, this is incredibly obvious to me

I know so few people that genuinely make enough in their 9-5 to feel comfortable and to be able to save and invest money

They all want a side hustle, they want to figure out how to use ai to make money, how to make money with content, start a business, etc

there’s a world where you build an agent to help everyday make money, an agent app store, a side gig marketplace, the ideas are endless

but the future of work is changing, and soon 9-5 jobs will look different and many people will have to figure out alternative ways to make money

I recorded a short video on how I’d make money building software with claude

if you want to check it out, you can watch it here

Happy Tuesday
