The Day It Clicked For Me

this youtube video changed my life

I probably had the most “guaranteed” path to wealth and a stable life that’s possible

came from a good family, I got great grades in high school, got into a good school, was studying finance and was going to then get a good job and climb the ladder

and I was going to graduate with zero debt, so really, I couldn’t have had a more predictable path to a comfortable life

I was doing everything perfectly by societal norms, I was following the playbook to a Tee but something felt very off to me about it

I don’t want to sit in a cubical for the next 30 years no matter how much money it may pay

but what other option do I have? Alternative routes are so risky and this path is basically guaranteed

until I had “the day” everything clicked for me while in college, I was actually scrolling on twitter and there was an account I followed that was like @itsallrisky

and he posted a youtube video that he said changed his life, and I still revisit this video sometimes to this day, here it is for you

it’s a great video by Jim Rohn - watch it, even pause reading right now to take 10 minutes to watch this

insert pause

ok - did you watch it? This video changed my life

it starts off so fast even, the MOMENT we’re born, IT’S ALL RISKY

Here I was so worried about the “risk” of leaving the conventional route

but while there’s a risk in everything, there’s also a risk in doing nothing

You focus so much on the DOWNSIDE of everything, that you completely miss the upside

you worry so much about the loss that you never get the gain

you wait so long for the “perfect timing” that you never get it

are you more afraid of failing, or never trying? Because if you think the bill for trying is high, wait till you get the bill of regret

these words hit me like a truck, most people go to their deathbed with all types of regret, and I don’t want that to be me

I don’t want to have to look people in the eyes when I’m older and say I had XYZ dreams and ambitions, and when they ask why I didn’t do it, I say I was afraid of the risk

IT’S ALL RISKY

Finance route would have been risky

it’s risky to go to a job you hate every day

it’s risky because you could get fired

it’s risky because the stress could eat you alive

every time you drive your car it’s risky

every time you eat there’s the risk of choking

when you really look at things, you realize the perceived risk is always way higher than what it actually is

and people are truly so cynical that they’re always focused on the possible bad outcomes that they’ll never see how great taking risks can actually turn out

imagine I hadn’t taken the risks of starting a business, dropping out, and moving to Miami

I would have never experienced the coolest and most insane 3 years of my life

moving to Miami at 20 and living in a high rise with an ocean view? Buying my dream car and going on Yachts most weekends with my friends?

I would have NEVER gotten to see these things had I only focused on the possible bad outcomes

and I see it every single day in my life of people squandering opportunity because they’re scared of the bad outcomes

let’s say you take 5k to start a business and that’s a lot to you right now

assuming you’re young and don’t have a family to take care of, what’s actually the risk if you lose it?

you have your entire life left to make more money, you can’t always take risks like that once you have a family to provide for

that day i watched the video my perception on risk totally changed - and it has served me so incredibly well

I hope that video and this email can do the same for you

During Elon Musk’s speech at USC he said “Take risks now and do something bold. You won’t regret it.”

You’re capable of so much more than you may think - you just have to realize it

hope this email inspired you

P.S. reply back to this with what risk you want to take in 2025
