5 Years to Change Your Life

five years ago in May of 2019 I was graduating high school and getting prepared to go off to college to play tennis and study finance

but I also knew… I’m only a short 5 years away from corporate America

sitting in a cubicle, reporting to a boss, most likely not enjoying my job, having to travel to NYC (which I don’t like)

essentially… 5 years away from what was my biggest fear, living a life I’d hate

so rather than going through the motions, and having the “best four years of my life” in college and then getting hit with major post grad depression (I’ve been seeing a LOT of this)

I decided to try to figure out this whole make money online thing while I was in college

and I originally started with drop shipping

this was mistake #1

drop shipping is a pretty trash business model, low margins, genuinely isn’t really providing value and requires capital upfront

but it did get my feet wet into learning skills like website creation, copywriting, and super basic overall marketing

if I had to start over, I’d start by learning one hard skill, here’s the list I’d choose from today

1) no code development

2) Copywriting

3) Remote Closing

to this day I believe those 3 are the best ways to begin making money and also incredible skills to have, just keep in mind those are STARTING points

eventually you must learn other skills, but that’s a great place to start as a freelancer

but if you want to make REAL wealth, it’ll come from liquidation events

and listen maybe some of you just want to make 100-200k a year, and you’re like once I have 1-2M liquid or invested I’m basically going to chill / retire

that’s fine, I’m after tens of millions if not hundreds

I am not going to cash flow my way to $20M +

here’s the thing about many of the “businesses” taught online

it’s not a business, they’re not teaching you how to create enterprise value, they’re not teaching you how to build a real company that someone would want to one day acquire

do you think you’ll be a tik tok shop affiliate in a decade?

do you think you can sell your “growth operating” agency that has 2 clients and if one churns you lose 50% of revenue?

here’s the truth, I’ve been in online business for only 5 years, and I’ve seen a LOT of people come and go

I’ve seen a LOT of people GET rich

I’ve seen much fewer STAY rich - and it’s because people don’t build REAL businesses

they focus on gimmicky trends to make money, and not following true business fundamentals of providing massive value to a marketplace
